China Population Statistics
This chart shows China’s population numbers and rate of growth for 20 years, from 1991 through 2011. It shows that even though China’s total population was continuing to increase, the rate of growth was steadily declining over the same time.

China’s population has just about reached its peak and will start to fall within about a decade
The most recent population numbers for gender and age in China are from 2015. This chart shows that in the age groups for 20 – 24 and 25 – 29 there are significantly more males than females.

This chart shows that China’s birth rate was already starting to fall before the implementation of the One Child Policy. Some analysts believe that the One Child Policy may not have been necessary as it has resulted in a decrease in China’s labor force and an increase in the percentage of the population that is aging. China recently eliminated the One Child Policy in favor of a Two Child Policy. A surprising number of couples with one child have said they don’t want another child.
